Miniature Schnauzer Breed Standards
The Schnauzer is of German origin. The Miniature Schnauzer was derived from the Standard Schnauzer and is said to have come from the mixing of Affenpinschers and Poodles with small Standards. They became a distinct breed of their own as early as 1899. They are in the Terrier Group. However, most Terriers were bred in the Bristish Isles to go under ground after vermin. Miniature Schnauzers blood and origin are quite different, giving the Miniature Schnauzer a naturally happy temperament. The correct coat of the Miniature Schnauzer can only be kept by stripping, with no clipping. Clipping will lose the outer coat, as only the soft undercoat will grow back. Which to me is fine and dandy. The breed is hardy, healthy, intelligent, and quite fond of children. The size should be 12-14 inches. Should weigh somewhere around 14-17 pounds. Seems as they grow older, they pack on a few extra pounds. Hey, that sounds like me.
