The Silky is a native of Australia. Unlike most Australian breeds the Silky was not confined to only the country dwellings where they were working dogs, but the urban family’s enjoyed their company as pets. The Silky was developed by crossing the Australian Terrier with the Yorkshire. Thus the Yorkie look in a slightly bigger size. They are classified in the toy group, but should not be bred too small. They should be 9 to 10 inches tall and weigh between 8-10 pounds. Should have a straight, fine, silky hair coat. Quite pleasing to the touch. I really like this breed as they are outgoing and hardy. We raise Yorkies but I gotta tell you, I personally prefer the bigger size of the Silky. They are more affordable as well. It’s a win win situation.
